In the start of our research, we did a keyword search of “5-year-old girl raped at the US Embassy in New Delhi” and saw several news media reports. However, news reports from the year 2020 suggest that this incident is old and not recent.
According to a CNN news article, a 5-year-old girl, the daughter of a housekeeper working at the embassy, was found playing outside the embassy quarters. A 25-year-old driver working at the same embassy, who was also the girl’s neighbours, lured the girl in his house with the intention of raping her. He then carried out this horrific crime.
The next day, the girl informed her parents and a complaint was lodged at Chanakyapuri police station. Police took immediate action. When medical examination was conducted, it was found that the minor girl had indeed been raped.
The day the police received the complaint from the victim’s family, immediate action was taken and the accused was arrested from his residence. As per DCP Singhal statement, a case of rape along with charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) was registered at Chanakyapuri police station.
Conclusion: The news of rape of a 5 year old girl in the US Embassy in India is 4 years old. When the incident occurred, prompt action was initiated by Chanakyapuri police and the accused was immediately arrested under POCSO Act and rape charges.
