MS Dhoni’s Hand Gesture: Not Election-Related, but a Celebration of Reaching 6 Million Twitter Followers of CSK

Congress supporter, Himanshu Sehgal, shared a picture of former Indian cricket team captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, making a sign of ‘six’ with his finger. The user wrote, “MSD knows the importance of congress more than anyone else coz we won 3 ICC trophies under his captaincy during congress regime. A panauti striked the country in every area including ICC events after 26th may 2014 and we desperately need to get rid of it.” The picture was being used to insinuate that MS Dhoni was endorsing the Congress party by indicating the Congress symbol ‘hand’ and signaling ‘voting’ with his fingers. Fact Check

The reverse image search of the viral image was conducted and report by News 18 was found where we spotted the same image of Dhoni. The report is from the year 2020 when MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a cricket franchise based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which competes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) had completed 6 million followers on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the report, when CSK completed 6 million followers on Twitter in October 2020, the shared snapshot showed Dhoni making the number six sign with his fingers, marking the achievement of 6 million followers on Twitter. The sign had no connection with Congress and was entirely related to CSK’s social media milestone.
