Two years ago, murders were committed under the guise of the slogan ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’

In the year 2022, after the controversial statement made by former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma, radical Islamists carried out riots and violent incidents across the country. Slogans of ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ were raised. During this time, many people were killed, attacked, and threatened.

  • Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was brutally murdered in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Kanhaiya Lal had posted a status on WhatsApp in support of Nupur Sharma, after which Islamic fundamentalists entered his shop and killed him while making a video.
  • Umesh Kolhe was brutally murdered in Amravati, Maharashtra, for posting about Nupur Sharma. Although Umesh did not write the post himself but forwarded it, Yusuf Khan, a friend of Umesh for 16 years, took a screenshot of Umesh’s post and shared it in a WhatsApp group with members of the Muslim community. Umesh had helped Yusuf many times, including giving him loans and assisting with his sister’s marriage and child’s admission. Despite this, seven Muslims together killed Umesh.
  • Suleman attacked Mukesh in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, Bajrang Dal worker Ayush Jadam was also attacked by extremists. In Bhilwara, Rajasthan, Ayush Soni received death threats for posting a WhatsApp status in support of Nupur Sharma. In Sitamarhi, Bihar, Ankit Jha was stabbed to death by extremists because he was watching a video of Nupur Sharma. In Surat, Gujarat, Kripal Rawal, a businessman and lawyer, also received death threats. In Ara, Bihar, Deepak was brutally attacked by an Islamic mob.

Nupur Sharma had apologized for her statement, but despite this, violent protests across the country did not stop. In June 2022, Islamists staged violent protests after Friday prayers in Kanpur. Following Kanpur, violent protests also occurred after Friday prayers in Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Moradabad, and Rampur in UP. Subsequently, violent protests also took place in Ranchi, Jharkhand, after Friday prayers, resulting in more than two dozen people being injured. In Howrah, West Bengal, fundamentalists blocked railway tracks after Friday prayers. In Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, Muslim youth Saad Ansari posted on social media in support of Nupur Sharma, which led to a furious mob attacking him.

The slogan ‘sar tan se juda’ being raised even in religious programs

Disrespecting any religion and its beliefs is unquestionably wrong, and legal action should be take against those responsible. However, it is surprising that, in addition to incidents like those involving Nupur Sharma or Ramgiri Maharaj’s controversial statements, the Muslim community also raises slogans like ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ during their religious festivals.”

  • Muslims raised the slogan ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ during the procession held on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi in Amravati, Maharashtra.
  • Slogans of ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ were raised during the Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.

The slogan of Pakistan adopted by the Muslims of India

There is only one punishment for Gustakh-e-Rasool: ‘Sar Tan Se Juda, Sar Tan Se Juda.’ Gustakh means insult, and Rasool means Prophet Muhammad Saheb, meaning that whoever insults Prophet Muhammad Saheb should have their head separated from their body. This slogan did not originate in India but in Pakistan. In 2011, Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab province in Pakistan, was murdered. Salman Taseer had criticized Pakistan’s blasphemy law, after which his bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri, shot him.

Following this, the fundamentalist organization Tehreek-e-Labbaik, led by Khadim Hussain Rizvi, honored the murderer Mumtaz Qadri with the title of Ghazi. Khadim rallied people in support of Mumtaz across Pakistan. However, in 2016, Mumtaz Qadri was executed for the murder of Salman Taseer. Over one hundred thousand people attended Mumtaz Qadri’s funeral prayers. Two slogans emerged during this period: ‘Labbaik Rasool Allah’ and ‘There is only one punishment for Gustakh-e-Nabi: head and body are to be separated, head and body are to be separated.’ Now, Muslims in India have started adopting this slogan. It has become an agenda for ruthless killing in India.

Conclusion: After Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj’s statement, the Muslim community is seeking justice on the streets rather than through the police and courts. Such threatening statements cannot be ignored. A similar situation occurred in the case of Nupur Sharma, where many Hindus lost their lives and others were attacked.
