Complying with the order on March 15, 2024 and adhering to the deadline set by the court, the State of India (SBI) released the data of electoral bonds. The Election Commission made the date public on its website. After SBI released the date, it was found that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC), and Trinamool Congress (TMC) were the primary beneficiaries of electoral bonds, receiving the highest amount of money. Concurrently, a viral claim has surfaced about companies that have contributed funds through electoral bonds, particularly focusing on an alleged donation to the BJP from a company allegedly involved in the sale of cow meat. A video featuring Khan sir alias Faizal Khan, is circulating on X (formerly Twitter). In the video he alleges, “A significant sum of money is spent in elections. Look at electoral bonds, a company selling cow-buffalo meat is donating Rs 1500 crore. Consider the profit they must be making. Now imagine how many cows they must have slaughtered. Caused asthma to aastha. Just ponder over that. A healthy cow is available for Rs 20-25 thousand.” He further adds, “How many thousands of cows must have been slaughtered to generate a profit of Rs 1500 crores.”
Congress supporter Shantanu sharing the video of Khan sir wrote, “The relationship between ‘beef selling’ companies and BJP. Ho many cows…just imagine….” (Archived link)
Another user, Dinesh Kumar, with substantial followers, who is a journalist as per his bio, while propagating Khan sir’s video wrote, “The institute that slaughters cows and buffaloes is giving donations through electoral bonds! BJP makes false show of Hindutva!” (Archived link)
Handle Villager Singh wrote, “The Modi government has also taken donations from beef companies. BJP considers cow as m0ther, you can see how shameless BJP is. Save India from BJP dictatorship. Say it loudly No vote for BJP.” (Archived link)
Gopal Krishna Tiwari, the worker of INC, wrote, “BJP’s ‘bloody donation’ game. Companies that slaughter thousands of “cows and buffaloes” and sell beef have donated thousands of crores of rupees to @BJP4India through #इलेक्टोरल_बांड . And BJP has readily accepted that donation stained with cow blood. Why did the BJP, which does politics day and night in the name of cow, promote the companies that slaughter ‘Gau Mata’, the symbol of our faith and devotion, and take donations worth thousands of crores of rupees from them? Is BJP’s love for cow a lie and deception, if it is so, then it is against the culture of the country and against the sentiments of countless people who follow Hinduism. Wil @narendramodi, @AmitShah and @myogiadityanath reply to this??” (Archived link)

After scrutinizing through media reports about meat selling companies that donated to political parties through electoral bonds, it was found that according to the Quint report, the meat exporter company that donated through electoral bonds is Allana Group, which bought 6 bonds in the year 2019 and 1 in the year 2020. As per Quint report, the company has donated to BJP and Shiv Sena. However, The Quint’s report explicitly states that the Allana Group exports buffalo meat.
In the next step we went to Allana Group website. As mentioned in the business segment of the website, the Allana group is the largest exporter of frozen halal boneless buffalo meat to more than 70 countries across the world. The product segment of the websites makes no mention of the cow meat.
Established in 1865, Allana Group is a well-known Indian conglomerate that is involved in many different industries such as food processing, agribusiness, real estate and others. It is considered to be one of the famous and largest exporters of processed meat, mainly buffalo meat, in India. The company manufactures and exports frozen and chilled meats, fruit and vegetable products, coffee and spices to more than 85 countries.
Additionally, in the next step, the Only Fact team contacted Allana Network. Speaking to our team, Allana clarified, “They are not involved in the export of cow meat. He emphasized that their expertise is specifically in the export of buffalo meat and not cow meat. Anyway, cow meat is banned in Maharashtra, hence such allegations are not justified.”
Over the past few years, claims of India exporting cow meat have surfaced several times on the internet. However, in response to a 2019 RTI inquiry seeking year-wise data on beef exports of Indian cow breeds from 1947 to 2018, it was clarified that India does not export cow meat. The response said, “The export of beef (Cow meat) is not allowed/not permitted by the Govt. of India, hence, no export date is available.”
When the Election Commission released the electoral bond data, several media outlets reported that the beef selling company had donated to the BJP and this is from where the row surrounding cow meat company donating to BJP arose. It is important to note that, buffalo meat is also classified as beef. Therefore, do not confuse it with cow meat.
Conclusion: Khan sir’s claim about cow meat selling company donating in electoral bond is misleading.
