Khaled Beydoun deceiving people in the name of donation? Fact Check.

Since mid-June, Pakistan has seen unprecedented floods that have claimed 1,100 lives and resulted in $10 billion in damage. One-third of the country is underwater, and at least 33 million people have been affected.

Khaled Beydoun, known for his anti-Hindu and anti-India stances, launched a fundraising effort. On August 30, 2022, he urged Twitter users to donate to aid with relief operations by posting the donation link in his tweet. He attached an image from a Pakistani region ravaged by flood along with the donation link.

Many Twitter users immediately criticized Khaled for misleading people and accused him of using old images after he shared the tweet asking for donations. Khaled later removed his post after being criticized for using old pictures.

Fact Check

In our research, using TinEye reverse image search, we discovered the BBC and German news outlet Welt report from 2010 and found that Khaled is soliciting donations using images of former flood victims.

In another tweet, Khaled used an image from the Pakistan floods of 2010 showing a Pakistani mother carrying her children through flood waters, as per the report by Green DC released published 2011. Khaled, a purported Muslim activist, continues to hunt for ways to mislead online users even during times of crisis. Many Twitter users immediately criticized Khaled for misleading people and accused him of using old images after he shared the tweet asking for donations. Khaled later removed his post after being criticized for using old pictures.
