The truth behind Arvind Kejriwal’s promise and claim at Gujarat rally

The political parties contesting the election in Gujarat are employing every campaign strategy to win the poll as the election draws near.

Arvind Kejriwal, on his two-day visit to Gujarat, addressed a public rally in Chhotaudepur district, which is mostly dominated by tribes. If elected, Arvind Kejriwal promised free electricity and “10 lakh government jobs” at his rally. He also claimed that the AAP government has provided “employment to 12 lakh youths” in Delhi. He said that the people are suffering in misery because the bills are too high. He also promised to guarantee a constant supply of electricity and to waive off the bills from the previous year.

The question that arises now is if 9.61 lakh individuals in Gujarat have received government employment over the last 75 years, how would Arvind Kejriwal’s government give 10 lakh people government jobs over the course of the next five years?

Apart from his false claim about providing 10 lakh government jobs, Kejriwal also claimed to have created 12 lakh employment for Delhi residents during a rally in Gujarat.

This is not the first time Arvind Kejriwal has made such claim about providing 12 lakh jobs to the youths of Delhi. In his speech during the debate of Manish Sisodia’s presentation of the Delhi budget, Kejriwal asserted that during the previous five years, the Delhi government has created 12 lakh employment in the National Capital.

Even during an interview with The Hindu Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has claimed that his government has provided 10 lakh jobs in the private sector to the Delhi people through its Rozgar Bazaar Portal.

In order to verify his claims made by Arvind Kejriwal on multiple occasions, our Only Fact team looked through various reports and official documents. During our research, we located a copy of the RTI application which revealed that during last 7 years, Delhi government has only provided 3246 jobs.

Our research established an another copy of an RTI request filed by Harsh Dinesh Kumar Shah on April 4, 2022. According to an RTI response, the Delhi government created 3686 jobs between 2015 to 2022. Even after the RTI revelation, Arvind Kejriwal has constantly boasted and lied about generating 12 lakh jobs to people.

Many Twitter users slammed Arvind Kejriwal for deceiving the public. Sujit Hindustani, a Twitter user, shared a copy of an RTI request he made on April 28, 2022. In his 2015 election manifesto, Kejriwal promised to create 8 lakh jobs over a five-year period. However, according to the letter received from the Service Department of Delhi in response to an RTI request 267 candidates gained job.

We also looked into the AAP government’s assertion that through its Rozgar Bazaar Portal they have provided 10 lakh jobs to the Delhi residents. According to official statistics received by The Hindu, just 12,588 candidates have got the job through Rozgar Portal.
