Kashif Arsalaan, a serial false news peddler who sits outside India and peddles fake news against the Hindu community and numerous Hindu organizations, recently tweeted a video (Archive link) of a few people engaging in a violent conflict with police. While tweeting the video, he wrote a caption in Hindi, which translates too, “When the terrorist organization Bajrang Dal becomes fierce, then it does not even recognize the one from whom it is getting protection. According to Kashif’s claim, the people involved in physical violence with the police are members of the Bajrang Dal.

Upon reviewing the video, we found that the video in question is approximately seven months old. Contrary to Kashif’s claims, it was determined that the individuals engaged in a physical altercation with law enforcement were not affiliated with the Hindu organization Bajrang Dal.

The video’s accompanying caption provided crucial context, revealing that the incident transpired during a protest led by tribal individuals. The protest involved the alleged vandalism of a church situated in Chhattisgarh’s Bangalapara district. The motivation behind the protest was reportedly linked to concerns about religious conversion activities taking place within the community.

To gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire situation, a relevant keyword search was conducted on Google. We found numerous media reports shedding light on the incident from various perspectives.

According to a report by the Times of India (Archive link) dated January 2, 2023, the tribal Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, experienced a series of clashes at the beginning of the year. These clashes revolved around a conflict between tribal groups and the Christian community, sparked by allegations of religious conversions purportedly carried out by a Christian organization. Both sides engaged in protests during this period.

Furthermore, we found that amidst the ongoing conflict between the two communities, on January 2, a group of tribal people caused disturbances within a church located in Bakhrupara. Subsequent police intervention was met with the group chanting slogans, engaging in stone-throwing incidents, and physically assaulting the police using sticks. During this confrontation, the Superintendent of Police, Sadanand Kumar, was attacked and suffered injuries.

In line with a statement made by Narayanpur’s collector, Ajit Vasant, the individuals responsible for the violence and the church attack were identified as members of the Adivasi community. There was no indication of involvement by Bajrang Dal members.

Following the attack on the church, five people were arrested. They were arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 153 (a) (which pertains to promoting enmity between different religious groups), 295 (relating to the deliberate defilement or damage of a place of worship to insult a particular religion), 147 (concerning penalties for rioting), 148 (pertaining to being armed with a dangerous weapon), and 149 (addressing the culpability of an unlawful assembly for an offense committed with a shared objective).

Therefore, considering the information provided above, the claim that Bajrang Dal members were involved in attacking the police is misleading.
