Ahmad, the self proclaimed social media user, shared a video of BJP leader Jyotiradtiya Scindia, in which he can be seen helping a minister wear his slipper.
The Twitter user mocking Scindia wrote, “It is very sad that when he was in Congress, he was a Maharaja, and today in the BJP, he is lifting the slippers of the minister.” He tried to portray that Scindia is not respected in the BJP, and is subjected to various humiliations.
Another Twitter user going by the handle name Aesthetic Ayush, the Congress supporter, shared the same video with a caption that reads, “Maharaja Jyotiradtiya Scindia serving slippers to BJP minister in his feet.”
Fact Check
We started our research with a keyword search for “Jyotiraditya Scindia helps the Minister wear his slippers” and came across the India Today report. After going through the report, we found that the man in the video with Jyotiraditya Scindia is Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar. According to the report, Tomar was upset with the bad condition of the roads in his area. So, he took a pledge to stop wearing slippers on October 20, 2022. He has stated that he will not be wearing slippers until the road work is completed.
While making this decision, he remarked that the common man walks on these deplorable roads and his feet suffer. He’s going to quit wearing slippers so he can experience the pain and understand how the common man feels.
Following Tomar’s stern decision, authorities from the district administration and the corporation acted. Later, work on creating the assembly’s three main highways began. The project is nearing completion.
Tomar attended Gaurav Diwas on December 25, 2022, which commemorated the 98th birthday of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. At the ceremony, Scindia requested new slippers and requested that Tomar break his pledge and wear those slippers because the road work would be completed and inaugurated shortly. After Scindia makes the minister wear his slippers, minister touches Scindia’s feet out of respect.
The reality was far different from what Twitter user Ahmad was attempting to depict. Scindia’s gesture was one of respect. There was nothing shameful about this. Ever since he left the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, the opposition has made the narrative that Scindia is not respected in the BJP party and is often exposed to humiliations.
