On Monday, August 29, 2022, the Congress party Twitter handle targeted BCCI Secretary Jay Shah by posting a viral video from India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match celebrations with the caption that reads “Their habit of distancing themselves from the tricolor is many generations old – how can it go?”
As per the video shared by The Congress Party, Shah can be seen refusing to hold the Indian tricolor flag when offered one.
“I have papa, Keep the tricolor with you!” the Congress Party’s communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh tweeted
Beside the Congress, leaders from other opposition parties such as Shiv Sena, and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also attacked the BCCI secretary for his gesture.
Y Sathish Reddy and Krishan K from TRS objected to the video in strong-worded responses, naming the RSS and the BJP.
“The tricolor in every hand is a symbol of our resolve and loyalty to the country. To shake (refuse) the tricolor in this way is an insult to the country’s 133 crore population,” Priyanka Chaturvedi MP from Shiv Sena wrote in her tweet.

Jay Shah is the president of the Asian Cricket Council and the secretary of BCCI. As Asian Cricket Council is the subordinate of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jai Shah is bound to follow Code Of Ethics. To maintain neutrality as per the Code of Ethics, he was not holding the Indian Flag. Henceforth, the claim made by the Congress Party’s official Twitter account, the Congress Party’s communication in charge Jairam Ramesh, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Y Sathish Reddy, and Krishan K from TRS is delusory.
