Several mainstream media news outlets, including Hindustan Times (Archived link) and Aaj Tak (Archived link), have shared a video of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and reported that she has expressed concerns about a purported large-scale conspiracy to Islamize European civilization, stating, “It is important to put an end to it. There is no room for Islam in Europe.” TV9 Bharatvarsh (Archived link), Amar Ujala (Archived link), Dainik Bhaskar (Archived link), News 24 (Archived link) and RadioGenoa (Archived link) have also carried reports quoting Meloni.
In our fact-checking report, we did a relevant keyword search and found a report by India Today. According to the report, this statement is not from now but from five years ago. On February 9, 2018, Giorgia Meloni expressed that there is a “compatibility problem” between the values and rights of Islamic culture and European civilization.
In an old video, Meloni stated, “I believe there is a problem of compatibility between Islamic culture and the values and rights of our civilization. I will not allow Sharia law to be implemented in Italy. The values of our civilization are different!” Additionally, we found a video on the alanews YouTube channel. The title of the video reads, “Meloni: Salvini is right, Islam is incompatible with our culture.” In the video, Meloni is heard speaking Italian.
Conclusion: The video of Meloni saying “There is no place for Islam in Europe” is from five years ago.
