Fact Check

According to the data provided by World Poverty Clock, about 83,068,597 Indians have been plunged into poverty in 2022, representing 6% of the country’s population.

As per the data available on World Poverty Clock, 11% of the nation’s population were living in poverty in 2016. The data showed a 3% reduction in 2018 and 2% of elevation in 2020.

While in 2020 the 10% of the total population were living in poverty in India, it got turned down to 6% in 2022.

According to the percentage Nigeria has a higher proportion of the world’s poverty than does India. The overall number of people living in poverty in Nigeria is 83,005,482, which makes 39% of the country’s population, as per the data from World Poverty Clock.

In both 2016 and 2018, 38% of Nigerians were living in poverty.

A rise in the percentage occurred in 2020 and 2022, bringing it to 39%.

The claim made by AAP Gujarat and Satish Reddy is misleading, according to our research. Nigeria has a higher ratio in poverty than India, in terms of percentages. While India’s poverty rate decreased in 2022, there was an increase of 1% in Nigeria.
