Viral image of PM Modi inside a hut is from Vishwakarma Scheme exhibition, not a real visit
An image showing PM Modi interacting with a woman inside a house is being shared with the claim that the visit was staged. It is being alleged that before his visit, the house was refurbished and furnished with new household items like sewing machine, an expensive carpet, pillow covers, and a high-mast light, and that the house was freshly painted. The claim also points out that the woman is seen wearing an ID card while using the sewing machine, suggesting that the entire scene was arranged as a part of PR stunt.
Sharing the image, Avishek Goyal wrote, “After the fake classroom and fake Yamuna, now a fake hut? Plastic paint, new sewing machine, expensive carpet, new pillow covers, and even a high-mast light! The woman’s wearing an ID card at home. Is this really a hut or a studio setup? And who enters someone’s house wearing shoes?” (Archived link)
Another handle asserted, “PM Modi’s staged visit to a poor hut- fresh paint, new sewing machine with red ribbon, costly high-mast light, brand new blanket and pillow covers and matching color thread on wall scream artificiality! Woman in hijab, ID indoors, scattered scraps of same color. Fake Vishwaguru.” (Archived link)
The image was also shared by many other handles such as Ragini Nayak (Archived link), Nazneen Akhtar (Archived link), Kamran (Archived link), Hyderabad Intellectuals Forum (Archived link), and Murugam Nesam (Archived link).

In our fact check research, we conducted reverse image search of the viral image. The search led us to a news report by News18 dated September 17, 2023, which features the same viral image. According to the report, the image was taken on the PM’s 73rd birthday, when he visited a three-day exhibition in Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, at the launch of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.
The report further says that the scheme was launched on September 17, 2023, with an aim of financially supporting people who work in traditional crafts and skilled trades such as carpentry, blacksmithing, pottery, tailoring, goldsmithing, and other artisanal works and provide them with skill development training and market support. A total of 18 traditional crafts were included in this scheme. Along with the launch, an exhibition was also held in Yashobhoomi, where these crafts and artisans were displayed. The scene showing PM Modi interacting with woman using sewing machine is from one of the crafts displayed at the exhibition.
Apart from this, we also found the same image in MSME Insider, a monthly bulletin published by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The October 2023 edition highlighted the launch of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. It included several images showing Prime Minister Modi interacting with artisans at the exhibition, with the viral image appearing on page 6. He also distributed Vishwakarma certificates to 18 beneficiaries.
In conclusion, the image of PM Modi interacting with a woman inside a house is being shared with the claim that the hut was refurbished for his visit; however, in reality, the image is from an exhibition held during the launch of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in September 2023. The claim suggesting a staged visit for PR stunt is false and misleading.
