Horse Racing Competition Clip Falsely Shared as Caste Discrimination Against Dalit Groom

A video is going viral on social media showing a man dressed as a groom riding a mare. Shortly after, the people around him starts attacking him and forcibly pulling him down from the mare. Later in the video, the crowd can be seen clashing with one other. This clip is being shared with the claim that the groom is Dalit, and it offended the upper-caste people because they believe that lower castes should be barred from symbols of status and privilege, such as riding mares. Hence, incensed by the Dalit groom riding a mare, they attacked him to prevent him from doing do.

Sharing the video, the handle Dalit Voice wrote, “A Dalit groom rode a horse, and oppressive caste Hindus went into panic mode. This is the true face of Hindutva — an ideology that collapses the moment Dalits claim dignity.” (Archived link)

Another handle Harsh Chhikara stated, “Even today, this is the condition of our country — discrimination is increasing so much. In areas labelled as ‘upper caste’, a person identified as ‘backward caste’ is not allowed to ride a wedding horse? Why don’t the people who are marching on foot demanding a Hindu Rashtra go to such places and talk about unity?” (Archived link)

Fact Check

In our fact-check research, we extracted keyframes from the video and performed a reverse image search. We found the same video posted on Facebook on October 3, 2025, by a user named ‘Venu Ta RRrock.’ Here, the user listed Maddikera as their location, which is in Andhra Pradesh. The post was shared with hashtags like ‘horseriding,’ ‘horseracing,’ and ‘dussehra.’ However, the context of the video was not given.

Upon further research, we found another video from the same location on his page. In the video, several people are seen riding horses together.

Additionally, we also found another horse racing video on his Facebook profile which was uploaded on October 3, 2025.

Next, we scrutinized the Facebook profile of Venu Ta RRrock and found that he had uploaded similar videos showing horse racing on Dussehra in Maddikera in October 2024, October 2023, October 2022, October 2021 and October 2020.

All of this suggests that the video may be from a horse race in Maddikera, as the user’s Facebook profile shows that he has shared several footages of horse races in Maddikera. Furthermore, the original post has no such captions which indicates that the video shows caste discrimination with Dalit groom. Instead, it contains hashtags like horseriding and horseracing, which emphatically evinced that the video shows a horse race.

Lastly, we found a report by the ETV Andhra Pradesh. The report stated that a horse racing competition was held with great enthusiasm on the occasion of Dussehra in Maddikera, Kurnool district. Despite facing the challenges, people have been exhilaratingly carrying out this ancestral tradition, temerity risking their lives. Before commencing the horse racing competition, hundreds of people march to the Bhogeswaralaya near Maddikera to offer prayers.

In conclusion, the video showing an attack on a man dressed as a groom does not appear to depict caste discrimination by upper-caste members. The video is from Madikeri, Andhra Pradesh, where horse racing competitions are held during the Dussehra festival. The clip likely depicts a fight between two groups during the race.
