False Videos Shared Amidst Reports of US Strike Against Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

Amid the ongoing escalating tension between Iran and Israel, news came on June 21 that the United States has launched an operation named ‘Operation Midnight’ against Iran and carried out major air strikes on its nuclear facilities located in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. According to the report, after the attack, the three targeted sites have faced extreme destruction. US President Trump described the operation as spectacular and stressed that these attacks have been carried out to neutralize the nuclear threat from Iran, while Iran condemned the US action, calling it a violation of international law and warned of retaliation. Meanwhile, several videos were circulated on social media, claiming that it captures visuals of US attack on Iran’s nuclear sites.

In this report, we have documented several instances of fake news where old and unrelated videos are being shared linking them to a U.S strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

2. Video of massive explosion falsely linked to Iran’s nuclear site is actually from Syria

Fact: The video is actually from September 2024 and shows a drone strike by Ukrainian forces on a Russian ammunition depot.

Fact: The viral video is from June 16, 2025, showing an Israeli strike on a major Iranian ballistic missile facility.

6. Video claiming US attack on Iran nuclear site is actually of Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan

Claim: The explosion shown in the video is from an Iranian nuclear site following a U.S. strike. (archived link)

Fact: The video is actually from December 2024, when Pakistani forces carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Barmal district.

7. Video falsely claimed as US protest against Trump’s Iran attack

Fact: The video is from a protest held on June 14 in California against Donald Trump’s anti-immigration policies. It is unrelated to the U.S. airstrike on an Iranian nuclear facility that occurred on June 22.

Fact: This video is AI-generated and was created by @cmlacyn, an account who produces AI-generated content depicting unusual events and disasters.

In conclusion, while the United States carried out significant strike targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran, several videos of explosions and airstrikes were shared online claiming it to be a US strike against Israel, but they turned out to be unrelated and outdated.
