On April 30, 2023, a disturbing news story went viral on social media, alleging that several men raped a dead woman’s body in Sikar, Rajasthan. The post, which was shared by Lallanpost, a media house which has a history of publishing misleading and Hinduphobic content, claimed that the accused had taken the dead body out of a burning pyre and committed the heinous act. Lallanpost further claims that the police have arrested the five accused named Shankar Lal, Babu Lal, Raju Kumar, Deepak, and Hari Singh. According to Lallanpost, Out of the five accused, Shankar Lal was identified as a government teacher who reportedly kept an eye on who died in the village.
A Congress supporter with the Twitter handle Ehsanul Haque. Haque shared the picture originally posted by Lallanpost, expressing his disgust at the alleged incident. He wrote, “Shameful, they can’t be humans.” Haque went on to add another disturbing comment, urging “attention-seeking burners” not to leave the burning pyre until the body is reduced to ashes.
Ashok Swain, an anti-India and anti-Hindu columnist also shared the fake news about the alleged rape of a dead woman’s body in Sikar, Rajasthan. Moreover, Swain also claimed that five Hindus had been caught for raping the dead body of a woman by taking it out of a burning pyre.
Another Hinduphobic activist named Ali Sohrab claimed in his tweet that five Hindus had raped a woman after pulling her half-dead body from the cremation ground in Rajasthan. Sohrab further alleged that Hindu media outlets had aired fake news to cover up the incident by linking it to some concrete graves in Hyderabad, India, and Algeria with Pakistan and rape.
Apart from this, alleged fact checker Mohammad Sher Ali and Parveen Aheer also made similar claims.

The spread of news about the alleged rape of a dead woman’s body in Sikar, Rajasthan had caused widespread outrage and shock on social media. However, the reality of the incident was quite different from what was being portrayed by Hinduphobic media outlets and anti-India activists.
Upon investigating the matter, it was found that the incident was completely fabricated, and there was no evidence to support it. In fact, the official handle of the Sikar police had to intervene and debunk the fake news that was being spread on social media. The police clarified that the incident was false and misleading, and that no such incident of rape had taken place.
According to the replies of the Sikar police to every account who shared this info, the incident was a case of mistaken identity. Three days after the cremation of the dead body, a person from outside came to the area to meet his acquaintance, due to which the villagers thrashed him considering it as suspicious. Legal action was taken on the spot by police station Ajitgarh, and no incident of rape or sexual assault could be found.
In addition to the clarification made by the official handle of Sikar police, the OFI team reached out to them for further verification. The Sikar police confirmed that the claims made by several social media users regarding the alleged rape of a dead woman’s body were completely false.
Moreover, they stated that no FIR had been registered in this case as no such incident of rape had taken place. The Sikar police’s response to the OFI team’s inquiry further confirms that the incident was completely fabricated, and there was no evidence to support it.
Thus, after conducting a thorough fact-check and reaching out to the official handle of the Sikar police, it has been established that the claims made by various social media users and media agencies regarding the alleged rape of a dead woman’s body by 5 Hindu men in Sikar, Rajasthan, are completely false.
