Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque in Delhi Has Not Been Demolished

Recently, a video clip has been circulating on social media showing scenes of stone-pelting by a crowd, the police responding with tear gas, and a bulldozer being operated near Turkmen Gate. The video claims that Delhi’s Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque has been demolished.

Sharing the video, a handle Annushi Tiwari wrote,”Does Modi want civil war in our #India? In Delhi, the Fazl-e-Ilahi #Mosque was demolished. A large number of #Muslims tried to stop it they did not pick up guns, but they made every other peaceful effort. What does Modi want that 30 million Muslims take up arms?” (Archive Link)

Fact Check

In our fact-check, we conducted a keyword search which led us to an NDTV report published on January 7, 2026. According to the report, on January 7, 2026, the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) carried out a campaign to remove illegal encroachments near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate-Ram Leela Maidan area under the orders of the Delhi High Court.

The campaign targeted illegal structures such as drug dens, banquet halls, and dispensaries around the mosque area. Officials clarified that the mosque itself was not harmed or demolished during the campaign.

This claim is completely misleading and false. Officials and the police have repeatedly stated that the mosque was not damaged or demolished in any way during the campaign.
