On December 13, 2022, former chief minister of UP and Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav shared a viral photograph of a broken UPSRTC bus with the caption, “knackered government’s knackered bus”. Moreover, a few minutes later, Aam Aadmi Party leader and MLA Naresh Balyan also shared the same picture of the bus with the caption, “As the government, so shall be the bus”.
So, it was clear that the political leaders of both political parties were targeting the U.P BJP government, and CM Yogi Adityanath.
So, is it true that the broken bus in the viral picture is the courtesy of the Uttar Pradesh government? Let’s Fact Check.

Fact Check
As the matter of broken bus was related with Uttar Pradesh, we searched the official Twitter handle of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). On their Twitter handle, we found a tweet by UPSRTC mentioning the same bus that was being viral. UPSRTC while sharing the viral bus picture wrote that they were been informed by the Assistant Regional Manager, Rae Bareilly Depot that this bus was damaged due to being hit from behind by a vehicle while coming from Kanpur to Lucknow. So, they sent the bus to the Regional Workshop in Lucknow for repair.
However, according to UPSRTC when the bus was on its way to Lucknow for repair, some people took pictures of the bus and shared them with the fake claim that the bus is being operated with passengers when the reality is there were no passengers in the bus. Apart from this, UPSRTC also mentioned in their tweet that some people are sharing the broken UPSRTC bus picture with a fake claim only to damage UPSRTC’s reputation.
Hence all these points prove that the viral broken UPSRTC bus is not the courtesy of the Uttar Pradesh government as claimed by Akhilesh Yadav and Naresh Balyan. The bus was damaged only because it got hit from behind by another vehicle.
