On September 6, 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Twitter account released a video comparing PM Modi’s and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s goals, claiming that PM Modi wants to build Shamashaan and Kabristan in every village whereas Kejriwal wants to provide every village access to world-class education.

Our Only Fact team conducted research to check how much accuracy does the AAP’s claim holds. Through keyword search “PM Modi goal is to build Shamashaan and Kabristan in every village” we came across a report by Indian Express. In that report we found that the video clip of PM Modi shared by AAP’s Twitter handle is from public rally at Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. Further by using keyword “PM Modi’s speech at public rally in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh” we located a video on YouTube that was published by the official channel of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017. While speaking at a campaign rally in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi attacked the Akhilesh Yadav government by drawing parallels between Hindu and Muslim and accusing them of indulging in religious discrimination.
From 49 minutes 46 seconds on, PM Modi began slamming Samajwadi Party for practicing religious discrimination and said, “Gaon mein Kabristan banta hai to Shamashaan bhi banna chahiye. Agar Ramzan mein bijli milti hai to Diwali mein bhi milni chahiye. Agar Holi pe bijli milti hai to Eid pe bhi bijli milni chahiye. Bhedbhav nahi hona chahiye” (If land is provided to a village for a cemetery, it should also be allocated for a cremation site. Electricity should be available on Diwali if it is available throughout Ramadan. If electricity is available on Holi, then electricity should be available on Eid also. There shouldn’t be any discrimination. Modi further added, “There should be no religion and caste based discrimination)
In our research we established that PM Modi did not say that he wanted to create Shamashaan and Kabristan in every village, as claimed by the AAP Twitter handle. The AAP made an attempt to infer that PM Modi was using religion for political purposes and entangling people in the Shamashaan and Kabristan issues.
