Congress Claim About PM Modi Promising to Give Rs 15 lakh And Creating 2 cr Jobs is Misleading

Congress is sharing the video of Mallikarjun Kharge’s Puducherry rally, in which he claimed that PM Modi had promised Rs 15 lakh to every Indian. He also said that the PM had promised to create 2 crore jobs every year and accused him of lying.

The unapologetic fake news peddler of Congress, Supriya Shrinate shared the video of Kharge and wrote, “PM Modi promised to give 15 lakhs; have you received it? PM Modi promised 2 crore jobs, but has anyone got them? PM Modi promised to double farmers’ income; has their income doubled? Modi is jhutho ka sardar.” (Archived link)

The official handle of Congress wrote, “PM Modi promised to give 15 lakhs; have you received it? PM Modi promised 2 crore jobs, but has anyone got them? PM Modi promised to double farmers’ income; has their income doubled? Whatever Modi says, he can’t fulfill.   “Modi hai to mumkin hai,” then why hasn’t he fulfilled his promises yet? Modi is jhutho ka sardar.” (Archived link)

The same claim was also made by Jharkhand Congress (Archived link), GeetV (Archived link), and Anup Dhote (Archived link).

Fact Check

Let us first verify if PM Modi had promised to give RS 15 lakh.

In the year 2013, PM Modi had addressed a rally in Chhattisgarh. PM Modi in his speech slamming the blunders of the then led UPA Government said, “If, just once, the money that these fraudsters have stowed away in foreign banks, even if we bring it back, every poor Indian would receive Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakh. There is plenty of cash.”

It is evident from the video that he was talking about the issue of black money stashed in foreign banks and was also estimating how big this amount could be. He did not promise anywhere that he would repatriate this black money and deposit Rs 15 lakh in everyone’s bank account. We also checked the BJP manifesto for 2014 elections and found no such promise was made there either.

The second claim that PM Modi had promised to create 2 crore jobs is also a hoax.

In our research, we found a video of another rally of PM in 2013 from Agra. Addressing the crowd, PM Modi had said that Congress had promised to provide 1 crore jobs to the youth in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

Back then leading media The Economic Times distorted and misquoted the statement of PM Modi. In 2017, leftist media Quint had also distorted and presented the same statement from the Agra 2013 rally.

The ET and Quint distorted PM Modi’s statement

Furthermore, after digging deeper, we found the BJP’s 2014 election manifesto did not mention any such promise of creating 2 crore jobs annually. Whereas Congress’s 2004 election manifesto had promised about creating 1 crore jobs.

Over the years, Congress continued to feed the misleading narrative of PM Modi’s promise of creating 2 crore employment opportunities.

Additionally, we also discovered about the employment opportunities generated by BJP. According to a recent report by News18, over the past decade, various policy reforms under the Modi government helped boost the employment rate in Indian real estate. Real estate employment has increased from 4 crore in 2013 to 7.1 crore. Another report from IBEF from 2023, over 52 million jobs were created under EPFO and NPS in four years in the formal sector.

Conclusion: The claim made by various Congress handles that PM Modi had promised to give Rs 15 lakh to everyone and made another promise that he will create 2 crore jobs every year is misleading. They were found to be following the Congress’s legacy of spreading this misleading narrative during every election.
