A video is going viral on social media in which a girl wearing a school uniform is crossing a river using a pulley. This video is being shared with the claim that this video is from India and in the absence of basic facilities like bridges, students are risking their lives by crossing the river to access education.

Sharing the video, the handle Aafrin wrote, “The most critical issue of the country, education, is being suppressed as Sanghi-BJP work together day and night to fuel Hindu-Muslim tensions.” (archived link)

Fact Check

In our fact check research, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and ran a reverse image search. During this, we found a report by Zona Cero dated June 15, 2022. In this report, we found the same keyframe from the viral video.

According to the report, the video of students crossing a river using a pulley system is from Colombia. It was recorded in the Puerto Mosquito neighborhood of rural Santa Marta, where school-going children had to cross the Gaira River this way every day. After the video reached the mayor of Santa Marta, it prompted swift action, and steps were taken to build a bridge to address the issue.
