Clip of Gaurav Sawant Report on JD Vance Not Reaching Pakistan Is Doctored
A video from an India Today news show featuring journalist Gaurav Sawant is going viral on social media. In the clip, he appears to say, “We have exclusive news that the plane of US Vice President J. D. Vance will deflect back to the USA and will never reach Pakistan,” and also makes claims about money being given to pandits and the plane disappearing mid-air. The video is being widely shared as a sensational breaking news claim. However, an investigation revealed that the clip has been edited and is misleading.
A Pakistani X handle, The Whistel Blower, wrote, “Breaking News: Gaurav Sawant launches a critical attack on Pakistan, ‘We have exclusive news that the plane of US Vice President J. D. Vance will deflect back to the USA and will never reach Pakistan. We have confirmed this news from our Israeli sources who say the plane will be sent back.”
Yasser Latif Hamdani wrote, “Lol. This is hilarious. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, has given 3000 rupees each to pandits so that the plane of US Vice President J. D. Vance disappears mid-air before reaching Pakistan. I can’t stop laughing. Muhammad Ali Jinnah once called India a priest-ridden society — proved right again.”
Hafsah Malik wrote, “The cope is unreal. Indian media is saying J. D. Vance has turned back his plane to the USA. OMG, I am dead.”

During the investigation, we found the original video of Gaurav Sawant on the official X handle of India Today, posted on April 9. In this video, he is reporting on the China visit of Taiwan’s opposition leader, mentioning that KMT chief Cheng is likely to meet President Xi Jinping. There is no mention of J. D. Vance or any such claim in the original video.
