On April 3rd, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant diplomatic visit to Bangkok, Thailand, to attend the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. BIMSTEC, or the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, is an international organization comprising seven South Asian and Southeast Asian nations: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Upon the arrival of PM Modi in Bangkok, a video clip of his landing began circulating on social media, featuring chants of “Modi, Modi” in the background. However, some social media users have alleged that ANI artificially inserted the chants, claiming that no crowd was present to cheer for him.

Amit Yadav claimed, ‘This video is posted by ANI . ANI people, have some shame brother…What was the need to play Modi Modi music in the background at the airport, brother? No one is visible far and wide and in the background is Modi Modi.’

Surya Samajwadi alleged, ‘Modi ji has reached Bangkok. No one is visible but the voice of Modi Modi is coming, it seems like ANI has played background music.’

Suhail Azad, Suman, and Pallavi Maurya also shared a similar claim.

Fact Check

To fact-check the viral claim, we conducted a reverse image search of the video. This led us to an X post by WION journalist Sidhant Sibal, shared on April 3, 2025. In his post, Sibal wrote, “PM Modi reaches Bangkok, being welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora. The Indian PM is in Thailand for the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and is expected to hold several bilateral meetings.”

The footage clearly shows that Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora at Bangkok Airport, with chants of “Modi, Modi” resonating throughout the terminal. After landing, he proceeded to greet and interact with the gathered supporters.

Additionally, we found a YouTube video from PM Modi’s official channel, which provides live footage of his arrival at Don Mueang Airport. The video confirms that he was enthusiastically greeted by members of the Indian diaspora, shaking hands and waving to his supporters.

Therefore, the claim that ANI artificially added the “Modi, Modi” chants to the video is false. The chants were genuine, as PM Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora at Bangkok Airport.

ClaimANI posted a video from the airport where “Modi Modi” chants can be heard in the background, alleging that the chants were added as no crowd was present.
