Claims of Attack on Indian Army Base And Soldiers Death in Manipur is Fake

The Ukhrul’s Litan Sareikhong area in Manipur is currently experiencing tensions and sporadic violence. It began on February 7, 2026, after a minor drunken brawl between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki youths. This minor altercation quickly escalated into stone-throwing, arson, gunfire, and the burning of homes in nearby villages. Heavy security forces have been deployed in the affected areas to defuse tensions. Amid this, a video of arson is circulating on social media. Many users have claimed that the clip is from an attack on an Indian army base in Manipur, in which soldiers were killed and injured, and some even fled the base.

Sharing the clip, the handle Tactical Tribune wrote, “A huge Rebel attack happened at the Indian Army Base of III Corps in Manipur. At least 10 soldiers killed, multiple injured.” (Archived link)

Pakistani handle Zard si Gana asserted, “Indian Army Assam Rifles base in Litan, Manipur has been completely destroyed. Several Indian Army troops were killed, while others fled the area. Manipur freedom fighters have claimed responsibility for the attack, calling it retaliation.” (Archived link)

Another handle Annushi Tiwari claimed, “Clashes erupted between the Indian Army and local residents in Manipur. 17 people were killed and 87 others were injured. The situation is extremely tense, with the entire state of Manipur resembling a war zone.” (Archived link)

The clip was also shared by many other handles such as Irves (Archived link), Ahmad Hassan Al-Arbi (Archived link), Abdullah Gul (Archived link), Sarah Dumontior (Archived link), World Times (Archived link), and Sana Yousafzai (Archived link).

Fact Check

In our fact-check research, we ran a keyword search for “Indian Army base attacked in Manipur, killing and injuring soldiers,” “Indian Army/Assam Rifles base in Litan destroyed in attack,” and “In a clash between the Indian Army and locals in Manipur, 17 people were killed and 18 injured,” but we did not find any verified reports from credible media sources to support these claims.

Next, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a reverse image search. During this, we found a report from Dainik Bhaskar showing the same visual. According to the report, the visual is from Litan Sareikhong village in Ukhrul district. It shows miscreants setting fire to several homes and government quarters during the arson and violence that began on the night of February 8, 2026. The report states that 25 residential homes and four government quarters were set on fire.

The report does not mention the attack and destruction of an army base in Ukhrul district, nor does it mention any army casualties or troops fleeing the area amid the violence. These claims stems from the Pakistan’s propaganda against the Indian Armed Forces.

In conclusion, the posts claiming that the Indian Army base in Manipur was attacked by militants, resulting in the death of soldiers and multiple injuries, is entirely fake and baseless. There are no reports of any such incident. The visual actually shows arson in Litan Sareikhong village, where several houses and Govt quarters were damaged.
