Claim that Retired Indian Army Brigadier Killed by Unknown Men in Dehradun Over Terrorism Is False

Recently, a claim has been circulating on social media stating that a retired Indian Army Brigadier K. Joshi was shot dead by unknown men in Dehradun. According to the claim, the officer was targeted because he was a supporter of Israel and was involved in sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan.

Sharing the video Pakistani propaganda handle Zard si Gana wrote, ”United States has officially confirms it will not support India in upcoming wars against Pakistan because of Pakistan’s recent growing global influence, which is also saving USA from defeat by Iran. Russia, China, USA have distanced themselves from India.”

Another handle Anushi Tiwari asserted, ”Brigadier(R) V.K. Joshi has been killed, He had reportedly been receiving threats, & several of our retired army officers are facing similar death threats. The enemy has infiltrated our homes in #India. Congress is the only party that can stand up to #Pakistan.”

Kainyat Afridi wrote, ”A retired Indian Army brigadier was shot down by unknown ppl …He was actually a pro-Israel person n was sponsoring the Fitna Al Hindustan n all kind of this ghalazat in Pakistan especially in Balochistan.”

In our fact-check research, we conducted a keyword search using terms related to the killing of the retired Brigadier in Dehradun and found a report byThe Times of India published on March 30. According to the report, retired Brigadier K. Joshi died after being hit by a stray bullet during a road rage incident involving two groups traveling in separate cars in Dehradun on March 30, 2026.

Officials stated the incident occurred between 6:45 AM and 7:00 AM in Rajpur, Dehradun, when a dispute between two groups escalated into gun firing. At that time, K. Joshi was out for his routine morning walk and was hit by a stray bullet. Authorities confirmed that he had no connection to the dispute and was not a target, making him an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.

Despite these reports, some propaganda accounts circulated a claim on social media that the retired Brigadier had been deliberately targeted and killed by unknown assailants because he supported Israel and was involved in sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan. However, these claims are entirely baseless and unfounded. Brigadier Joshi was an unintended victim, and there is no evidence linking him to any form of terrorism-related activity.
