A video is circulating on social media in which a man claims to be in a London library, viewing what he describes as the original Constitution of India. He further asserts that the original document does not contain any images of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Laxman, Lord Krishna, or any other Hindu deities.

Laxman Meena while sharing the video tweeted, ‘This claim of Manuvadis also turned out to be false. Look, today a new information has come to light that there is no photo of any Ram, Krishna, Sita in the original Constitution. These people were fooling our society till date. This information should go viral which is in your hand.’

Aadi Arvind, ‘Very important information. Thank you very much! You shared this video. Like me, most of the Bahujan people were confused by this propaganda. Today the truth has come out.’

Fact Check

We began our fact-checking process by conducting a Google search on the topic. We found an article published by ETV Bharat on January 26, 2021, which stated that the Central Library in Gwalior has housed an original bound copy of the Indian Constitution since March 31, 1956. This valuable document is one of 16 original copies sent to various parts of the country. The library manager proudly mentioned, “It is a matter of great pride that we possess the original copy of the Constitution. People from distant places visit to see it. This copy is unique, with a gold-embossed cover and 231 pages. It contains Articles 344 to 351, along with the original signatures of 286 members of the Constituent Assembly, including B.R. Ambedkar, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and Feroze Gandhi. Each section of the document features symbolic illustrations.”

We also found a report by News Nation on YouTube, dated August 4, 2020, where a journalist described the presence of various cultural illustrations in the original Constitution. The report highlighted that in Part I, there is a depiction of the Mohenjo-daro civilization, followed by a Vedic Ashram on the next page. In Part III, on the section about Fundamental Rights, there is a picture of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lord Laxman returning to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan. In Part IV, which covers the Directive Principles of State Policy, an illustration shows Lord Krishna delivering the Bhagavad Gita to Arjun.

Additionally, we retrieved a copy of the original Constitution from the archives and confirmed that on page 18, under Fundamental Rights, there is indeed a picture of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lord Laxman returning to Ayodhya. On page 40, under Directive Principles, there is an illustration of Lord Krishna giving the Gita’s teachings to Arjun.

We also found an article on Medium titled “The Hindu Constitution of Ambedkar”, which includes images of several figures, such as Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Krishna, Arjun, Lord Buddha, and Lord Mahavir.

Therefore, the claim that images of Lord Ram and other Hindu deities are absent from the original Constitution is false. This appears to be a deliberate attempt by communists to undermine the representation of Hindu culture.

Attention to Readers: The News Nation report shows the journalist flipping through each page individually, whereas in the viral video, the person only displays three pages from the original copy of the Constitution. The remaining pages are cleverly flipped together in a single motion. This individual is drawing attention to the borders of the original copy, while in reality, all the illustrations are not in the borders but positioned in the center of the pages.
