India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Israel. During the visit, he addressed the Israeli Parliament, known as the Knesset. Meanwhile, a video from the Knesset is going viral on social media, showing members of Israel’s opposition party walking out of the Parliament. It is being claimed that all opposition members left the chamber in protest against PM Modi’s address.

A Pakistani X handle named Zard si Gana shared the video with the caption, ‘BIGGEST GLOBAL EMBARRASSMENT FOR INDIA! All opposition members in the Israeli Parliament walked out just as Modi arrived and was about to speak in Parliament. While Indians continue licking Israel’s balls, this incident happened. Indians are getting humiliated globally.’

Fact check

During our fact-check research, we conducted a relevant keyword search which led us to a report published by The Times of India. According to the report, the Israeli opposition did not walk out of the special session of the Knesset to protest the speech of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Instead, opposition leaders were reportedly upset over the exclusion of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Israel, who was not invited to attend the special parliamentary session. Their protest was directed at this institutional omission rather than at PM Modi or his address. Importantly, opposition leaders also clarified that their protest was aimed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and not at PM Modi. They stated that the boycott was directed solely at Netanyahu and that they would return to the session for Narendra Modi’s speech.

As a result, some opposition members chose to walk out of the session as a symbolic protest against the Israeli government’s decision regarding the event’s guest list. Their protest was directed at domestic political issues rather than at PM Modi himself or his address.

Fact checkThis boycott was related to Israel’s internal political issues and was not a protest against PM Modi. Several opposition parties had announced that they would skip PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech and would return only when PM Modi began speaking, to show respect for the alliance between the two countries.
