Claim that India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Confirmed the Arrest of Four Indian citizens in Liverpool, Sydney Is Misleading
A video is going viral on social media claiming that Australian counter-terrorism police have arrested five people, including four Indians, who were allegedly planning to carry out an attack similar to the Bondi Beach incident and the India’s Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed the arrest of these five suspects.
Sharing the clip, Pakistan-linked account Pakistan Defence asserted, ”Australian counter-terrorism police just detained five men who planned to potentially attack Bondi Beach again today. Citing 🇮🇳India’s Ministry of External Affairs, 🇦🇺Australian authorities have carried out fresh arrests of 5 additional suspects including 4 Indians near Sydney’s Bondi.” (Archived Link)
Another handle Zardan Sangzi wrote, ”BREAKING: Australian counter-terrorism police have arrested five men, including four Indians who were planning another attack like the Bondi Beach incident. – India’s Ministry of External Affairs says Australian police arrested five suspects today, including four Indians.” (Archived Link)

In our fact-check investigation, we took different keyframes of the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. During this process, we found the same video posted on ABC News on December 19, 2025.
The post stated that when authorities learned that a violent incident might be planned during a counter-terrorism operation in southwest Liverpool, Australian police arrested not five but seven people.
The police did not confirm the nationality of any of the arrested individuals, and neither any facial reports indicate that any of them are Indian citizens nor the India’s Ministry of External Affairs has issued any confirmation regarding the nationality of the arrested individuals or the suspects in the Bondi Beach attack.
In conclusion, these claims are misleading. The Australian police detained seven men but the nationality remains unknown; no arrests or charges were made, and it has not been officially confirmed that four people are Indian. No verified link is connected to any planned Bondi-like attack, nor has there been any confirmation from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
