Claim That General Suchindra Kumar Has Been Arrested by Indian Government Is False

Following the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which a Hindu tourist was targeted and killed, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply. Holding Pakistan responsible, India has responded by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani diplomats, and halting visa services. On the military front, hostility has intensified with the ceasefire agreement at the Line of Control (LoC) being broken. This has led to continuous cross-border firing, drone incursions, and increased troop movements on both sides. The situation remains hostile despite international calls for restraint. Amid this, a news is going viral on social media, claiming that General MV Suchindra Ra Kumar, Commander-in-Chief of the 16 Corps in Indian-administered Kashmir, has been arrested by Indian authorities and flown to Delhi after calling the Pahalgam attack a staged drama by the Indian government.

Sharing this news, the handle GHQ 111 Brigade TM wrote, “A mutiny has started within the Indian Army. Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the 16 Corps in Indian-occupied Kashmir, has been arrested by Indian authorities and flown to Delhi after calling the Pahalgam attack a staged drama by the Indian government. He previously held top military positions like Chief of Military Intelligence, Deputy Chief of Army Strategy, and Vice Chief of Army Staff.” (Archived link)

This claim was also shared by many Pakistani media outlets. 24 Digital reported that, “The Modi government has fired and arrested Lieutenant General M.V. Suchindra Kumar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, following the failure of the controversial Pahalgam false flag operation.  General Kumar refused to initiate any retaliatory action against Pakistan in the aftermath, leading to the collapse of the Modi government’s broader plan and has reportedly been taken into custody and flown to New Delhi under tight security protocols.” (Archived link)

The same claim surrounding General M.V. Suchindra Kumar was also reported by other Pakistani media like Times of Karachi (Archived link) and Dunya News (Archived link).

Fact Check

During our fact check research, we did a keyword search to confirm this viral news related to General MV Suchindra Kumar but we did not find any credible news report or official statement that can support this viral claim. On the contrary, Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar is actively serving his role. Recently, we found some media reports which said that he has assumed charge as the general officer commanding-in-chief of the Udhampur based Northern Command which is also known as Dhruv Command.

We also investigated the claim that General MV Suchindra Kumar has labeled the Pahalgam terror attack a staged drama by the government. However, we did not find any credible news report supporting this. In fact, as of now, he has not issued any official statement regarding the Pahalgam attack. This clearly indicates that the claim is baseless and unfounded.
