Claim About Indian National Nitin Mohan Arrested in Bahrain For Spying is Fake

An image of a handcuffed man is going viral on social media with the claim that Bahraini authorities have arrested an Indian telecommunications engineer named Nitin Mohan, for providing sensitive information to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

Sharing the video, the handle Truth and solidarity movement wrote, ”BAHRAINI INTELLIGENCE ARRESTS INDIAN TELECOM ENGINEER FOR PASSING SENSITIVE DATA TO ISRAELI MOSSAD Authorities in Bahrain have detained an Indian national, Nitin Mohan, a telecommunications engineer, for transmitting sensitive geospatial data, photographs, and video reconnaissance of strategic locations to Mossad, Israel’s external intelligence service. According to preliminary reports, the suspect shared site imagery and operationally relevant information that could support foreign intelligence analysis and targeting assessments. The Ministry of Interior Bahrain has confirmed the arrest but has not yet released further technical or investigative details regarding the case.”

Another handle, RTEUrdu asserted, ”Bahraini intelligence has arrested an Indian engineer on charges of leaking data to Israel. Bahrain’s security forces have taken into custody Nithin Mohan, an Indian telecommunications engineer, on suspicion of providing sensitive information to Mossad. According to initial reports, the suspect provided Mossad with geographical data, images, videos of strategic locations, and espionage photographs.”

The user Israr Ahmed Rajpoot wrote, ”Indian Citizen Arrested for Spying for Israel He Was Spying for Israel Bahraini authorities have arrested an Indian citizen, Nitin Mohan, who is a telecommunications engineer by profession. He was providing sensitive geospatial data, images, and videos of important locations to Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad.”

The same claim was also made by other handles such as @l6f_xc, Saraha Dumontior, @y10iu_,The Intel Corsotium and War Analyst.

Fact Check

During our fact-check research, we conducted a relevant keyword search and found no credible news reports supporting this claim.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also categorically labeled the claim that an Indian national, Nitin Mohan, was arrested in Bahrain for providing sensitive data to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad as fake.

During keyword search, we found a Facebook post by Arab Vines. According to the report, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of five Pakistani and one Bangladeshi, for their involvement in cybercrime violations. The individuals arrested are Mohamed Moaz Akbar (Pakistan), Afzal Khan (Pakistan), Ahmed Mumtaz (Pakistan), Arsalan Ali Sajid (Pakistan), Abdul Rahman Abdul Sattar (Pakistan), and Mohamed Israfil Meer (Bangladesh). No Indian national was involved.
