At the beginning of our fact-checking research, we conducted a reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video. During this process, we found a report by Dainik Bhaskar featuring the same video. According to the report, the incident took place outside a court in Raipur, Chattisgarh, on January 17, 2025, where a man, accused of attempting to murder a lawyer, was beaten by lawyers.
The person being assaulted in the video is identified as Ajay Singh. He had an ongoing dispute with his brother-in-law, Manoj Kumar Singh, whose case was being handled by his neighbor and lawyer, Dirghash Kumar Sharma. On the morning of January 16, at around 7:30 AM, while Manoj and Dirghash were performing a ritual at a temple, Ajay suddenly arrived and started verbally abusing Dirghash because he was representing Manoj in court. As per Patrika News, the situation escalated as Ajay began attacking Dirghash and even tried to assault him with a stone, causing injuries. He then attempted to stab him with a knife, but bystanders intervened and stopped him. However, he also attacked them.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered against Ajay at Khamtarai Police Station, and he was arrested on charges of assault, abuse, and attempted murder. After his arrest, the police brought Ajay Singh to court for his hearing before the judge.
The Dainik Bhaskar report further mentions that as Ajay was being taken to court, a group of lawyers standing outside became furious. They pulled him by his hair and started beating him. During the scuffle, the steel railing outside the court also broke. Despite large police deployed, the lawyers brutally assaulted Ajay. Several police officers were also injured in the clash.
