Amid the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections, a claim has been widely circulated on social media that an 82-year-old voter was manhandled by Central Armed Police Forces at Booth No. 245 in Udaynarayanpur, Howrah. The posts claim that the elderly voter, who reportedly needed assistance from his son, fell after being pushed and manhandled by Central Forces while entering the polling booth. He was later taken to Amta Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Sharing the video, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee wrote, ”Central Forces under Amit Shah have become BJP’s PRIVATE ARMY- A gang of licensed thugs unleashed on the people of Bengal. In Udaynarayanpur, an elderly man went to cast his vote with his son. Too frail to walk unaided, his son tried to help him into the booth. Central Forces pushed and manhandled both. The old man collapsed, was rushed to Amta Hospital and declared dead on arrival.”

When the son requested to accompany his father inside the booth, Amit Shah’s hired militia pushed the elderly man to the ground. He was rushed to Amta Hospital and declared dead on arrival.”

Another handle, Rahul Seeker, asserted, ”Purna Chandra Dolui, 82 yrs. His son alleges as His father couldn’t walk alone & so he was helping him into the polling booth. That time the Central Force pushed them. Both of them fell & it tuned fatal for his father. The son burst into tears regretting why he brought his father to vote. However, the election observer claims Purna Chandra fell sick and died. Just died you know. Trust Me Bro. Who should we Trust?”

We also found that CCTV footage from the polling booth, shared by the X handle Eminent Intellectual, shows that the elderly voter successfully cast his vote. After voting, he suddenly collapsed inside the premises. The footage indicates that his fall was abrupt and not caused by any visible physical assault at that moment. It also shows that his son was assisting him, as he was weak and needed support to reach the booth. There is no evidence in the CCTV footage of any pushing or beating by the Central Armed Police Forces prior to this incident.

In Conclusion, the claim that an elderly man was manhandled by Central Forces during voting in Udaynarayanpur, West Bengal, is false. CCTV footage shows that the 82-year-old voter successfully cast his vote and later, after completing the voting process, reportedly collapsed due to health-related issues.
