A video shows a Hindu saint sitting beside a woman on a Varmala sofa, both adorned with garlands. Social media users are sharing the video with claims that the Brahmin man has made a Dalit girl his Devadasi with the intent to sexually exploit her, alleging that this practice is still prevalent in Hindu culture.

Seema Budh posted, ‘Until 1950, Brahmins used the daughters of poor Dalits by making them Devadasi, But why were Hindus not in danger at that time.’

Karishma Aziz shared, ‘This practice was prevalent in India till 1950; people say it is still prevalent in Southern India! Seeing this it seems how much exploitation the women must have faced, I have heard that only Dalit women were made such!’

Fact Check

We began our fact-checking process by conducting a reverse image search on the video. During our search, we found an NDTV report published on November 5, 2024. The article stated that TV actress Divya Sridhar had become a topic of discussion due to her second marriage. The Malayali actress married actor and motivational speaker Chris Venugopal, who is 49 years old. The couple shared their wedding photos from the ceremony on October 30 on their social media pages, which quickly went viral, receiving widespread reactions. Regarding their love story, the report mentioned that Chris Venugopal and Divya Sridhar first met on the set of the TV show Patharamattu. They became friends, and over time, their friendship turned into love.

According to the report, Divya Sridhar consulted her children before getting married. She stated that her daughter approved of Chris for her second marriage. Chris Venugopal is not only an actor but also a writer. He has worked in TV shows and films such as Pullu Rising and Sambavasthalathu Ninnum. Speaking about her marriage to Chris, Divya Sridhar said that marrying him marked a new chapter in her life, and she was happy to have found such a life partner.

Additionally, we found an Instagram video shared by Universal Entertainment, showing the couple seeking blessings from elderly family members.

Moreover, news articles from Bollywood Life and India.com corroborated the fact that 38-year-old actress Divya Sridhar married 49-year-old Chris Venugopal in late October 2024.
