Fact Check

To verify the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. This search led us to reports of the case published on the websites of NDTV and Navbharat Times on January 6, 2021. According to these reports, a 50-year-old woman was gang-raped and murdered in the Ughaiti police station area of Badaun district. Mahant Satyanarayan, Vedram, and driver Jaspal were arrested in this case. We searched other media reports related to this case but found no mention of PM Modi meeting Satyanarayan or seeking his blessings.

Furthermore, the Only Fact team contacted Abhishek Saxena, a journalist with Dainik Bhaskar in Badaun. He informed us that this incident occurred in January 2021. Following a complaint from the woman’s family, priest Satyanarayan Das, his disciple Vedram, and driver Jaspal were arrested. No connection between the priest and Narendra Modi was found in this case.

After this, we contacted Rajiv Gupta, the BJP District Magistrate of Badaun. Rajiv Gupta told us that after becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi visited the district for a meeting in 2017. Since then, he has not returned to the district. When asked about the claim of seeking blessings from priest Satyanand Das, Rajiv Gupta stated that the PM left directly after his meeting and did not meet anyone named Satyanand Das.

Conclusion: The claim about PM Modi seeking blessings from Pandit Satyanand Das, accused in the Badaun gangrape case, is fabricated and false. This incident is three years old.
