Fake news peddler Bolta Hindustan, alleged fact checker Mohammed Zubair, anti-Hindu page Hate Detector, and propaganda journalist Imran Khan shared a video on social media that is going viral with a claim BJP MLA Preetham Gowda of Karnataka has threatened Muslims that he will not carry out any development work for the Muslims in the Hassan area if they don’t vote for him in the upcoming election.
Fact Check
We started our research with keyword searches like “Preetham Gowad’s speech in Hassan area”, and “Preetham Gowda threatened Muslims” on YouTube. The initial search led us to the video on the Kannad news channel, Public TV, where the BJP MLA is heard saying the same thing which is audible in the viral video.
With the help of Google translation, we translated the transcript of the audio shared by Public TV and found that Preetham Gowda’s speech is contrary to what Twitter users are claiming. In his speech, he stated that he has always seen Muslim brothers as his brothers and in the future also he will continue to do so. Further, he said that he had been ditched in the elections. If this continues again then, he won’t be able to help in personal terms, but he will work for the drainage, water, and roads as it is his duty.
We contacted a bilingual expert in the Kannada language who confirmed that both the english translation of the transcript and the audio of the speech are matching and accurate.
As per the above-stated facts, the fake claim was peddled to mislead the readers. In his speech, the BJP MLA did not state that he would halt the development of the Muslim community.
