A graphic is going viral on social media attributed to Amit Shah which alleged that he has remarked that, “Every social media worker, no matter which party they belong to, is surviving on the 5 kilos ration we provide.” This alleged statement by Amit Shah is being circulated suggesting that he has arrogant due to being in power.

Sharing the viral graphic, the handle Vijendra Chauhan wrote, “Our 5 kilos ration- said the man whose salary, security, and fuel are paid from the same taxpayer’s pocket. The audacity of power is stunning.” (Archived link)

Another user Samiratmaj Mishra asserted, “Our five-kilo ration? Whose? Who is giving this ration? This ration is being given by those who have the audacity to say such things with taxpayers’ money. Amit Shah ji may not know it, but the people of the country should know this.” (Archived link)

The same claim was also shared by other handles like Surendra Rajput (Archived link), Rajeev Nigam (Archived link), AlokDelhi6 (Archived link), Desi CNN (Archived link), AirwarriorUKB (Archived link), CSY (Archived link), and Er Ambarish Pandey (Archived link).

Fact check

In our fact-check research, we conducted a keyword search but did not find any credible media reports supporting the claim that Amit Shah made any such remark.

In the next step, we performed a reverse search of the viral graphic and found an original graphic on NDTV’s X handle. The graphic had the same template design, but the statement attributed to Amit Shah there was different, it said, “Politically, Bihar is one of the most aware states; the people of Bihar understand the real issues.” (Archived link)

Next, we scrutinized NDTV’s X handle but did not find the viral graphic there. Furthermore, there are several disparities between the viral graphic and the original graphic. The font of the quoted text in the viral version is different from the original graphic, suggesting that the fake quote was edited onto the original template.

In conclusion, the graphic attributing the remark “Social media workers survive on our 5 kilos ration” to Amit Shah is fake. In reality, he has not made any such remarks. The viral graphic, taken from NDTV’s x handle, has been edited to include a fabricated quote.
