On October 15, 2022, the Twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party Delhi shared another video showing empty chairs in the public meeting addressed by Piyush Goyal, a Cabinet Minister, just a few days after a misleading video showing empty chairs during the PM’s speech in Modhera went viral on social media.
We spotted the GSTV news media logo on the upper right of the video that AAP shared. Further, we looked through GSTV’s YouTube channel and discovered a video where they released a little clip from a public meeting during the Gaurav Yatra. They criticised the BJP’s management system, and said that there were empty chairs there.
The 45 second video clip that AAP shared appeared suspicious since it had 3 variations and lacked the proper order of events. In the first 11 seconds of the video a speaker can be heard speaking on the mic. From 11 seconds till 25 seconds, Piyush Goyal is seen addressing the crowd. Then after 25 seconds onwards the speaker is heard welcoming Piyush Goyal. Lets verify the video:
Gujarat is scheduled to hold assembly elections at the end of the year. The five-year Gaurav Yatra was started by Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda at the Gujarati temple town of Bahucharaji in the Mehsana district. This yatra will consist of a total of 5 yatras that will begin from various Gujarati temples and end at various temples.
The video footage that GSTV and the AAP shared was taken from the Gaurav Yatra public gathering in Gujarat where BJP leader Piyush Goyal spoke. In the video, after 11 seconds, Piyush Goyal is heard saying “Manch par upasthit maananeey Mohan bhai.” This sentence served as the reference point for our report. As the matter is related to him, our team looked through his YouTube account to learn the complete details of the public meeting.
On YouTube, we found a 14:35 long video uploaded on October 14, 2022, on the official channel of Piyush Goyal. At the start of the video, we found the reference point. From 9 seconds onwards, Goyal is heard saying “Manch par upasthit maananeey Mohan bhai” and he continued by saying “Mere saath yatra mein saath mein aaye Brijesh bhai. Yaha ke aapke lokpriye mantri Zaveri bhai.”
In our research, taking the reference point, we compared the original video with the one shared by AAP. We found that in the video shared by AAP, the speaker starts welcoming Piyush Goyal soon after Piyush Goyal finished saying “Manch par upasthit Mohan Bhai.” From this, it is evident that the video shared by AAP is edited. Two video clips are mixed in the video.
Further, in the original video contrary to what is implied in the edited video, a sizable audience is visible attending the meeting. We’ve taken a few still images from the video, which shows a sizable audience gathered for the meeting.
The video shared by AAP Twitter handle is edited with the intention to mislead people. As the Gujarat election draws near, the AAP is trying every social media gimmick in an effort to show that the BJP could lose seats.
