On social media, a picture of AAP leader Gopal Italia being held behind jail has gone viral. Several leaders and supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party have shared this photo and taking jibe at the BJP they have claimed that the Delhi Police has arrested Gopal Italia.
Naresh Balyan, an AAP party leader, who has been often called out for sharing fake and old news, shared the viral photo and extended his support to Gopal Italia with a revolutionary poem by Bismil Azimabadi.
Sanjay Singh, targetting BJP wrote: Why does BJP hate Patel community so much? The popularity of Gopal Italia started increasing in Gujarat, the fear of defeat in the elections started haunting, then in Delhi BJP police arrested Gopal Italia. Patel Samaj will surely avenge this insult.
Another AAP leader, Vanshraj Dubey, holding PM Modi responsible for Gopal Italia’s arrest, wrote: The state president of Gujarat AAP, our Patidar leader Gopal Italia ji has been arrested by the police at the behest of Modi ji. BJP’s defeat in Gujarat is already certain. Today, entire Gujarat has seen your hatred towards Patel community.

In our research, using reverse image search tool, we came across a report by Vibes Of India dated May 2, 2022. In the report, we found the same viral photo. The photo is 5 months old. As per the report, on May 2, 2022, 10 leaders including Gopal Italia were arrested.
The Gujarati news outlet, Divyabhaskar, has also shared the same photo 5 months ago.
Further, while verifying the claim that the Delhi police has arrested Gopal Italia, we found a report by Indian express. According to the report, Gopal Italia, the leader of the AAP in Gujarat, was held by the Delhi Police on Thursday and questioned for two hours in connection with a video in which he used derogatory language for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, Italia was released after 2-3 hours of questioning. The News18 tweet states that according to the Delhi Police source no FIR has been filed.
In our analysis, we found that the photo shared by AAP leaders showing Gopal Italia behind bars is an old photo. Also, he was detained by the Delhi Police for a few hours and was released.
