AAP misleading claim about empty chairs at PM Modi’s public meeting in Dhoraji

As the Gujarat election approaches, Aam Aadmi Party is trying every social media gimmick to portray itself as the rising party in Gujarat while claiming that the people of Gujarat are losing faith in the current government.

On November 21, 2022, AAP party spokesperson Sanjay Singh, fake news peddler Naresh Balyan, AAP Gujarat and propaganda media page GSTV News, tweeted a video clip purporting to show empty chairs at PM Modi’s event in Dhoraji.

In the video shared by AAP, PM Modi asks the people of Gujarat to bless him and vote the BJP into power. At the end of the video, he can be heard saying, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” This sentence served as the reference point for our report.

Fact Check

As the alleged video is from Dhoraji, using the keyword search “PM Modi event in Dhoraji” on YouTube, we discovered a 37-minute long video from a public rally meeting in Dhoraji, Gujarat, live streamed on the official channel of the Bharatiya Janata Party on November 20, 2022.

PM Modi is in Gujarat for three days as part of his election campaign. On the second day of the tour, before speaking at a rally in Gir Somnath’s Veraval town, he offered prayers at the Somnath shrine. He then traveled to Dhoraji in Rajkot district to speak at another rally.

After watching the entire video from the public meeting, we located the reference point in the video at 35 minutes. PM Modi asked the crowd to raise both hands if they agreed to carry his message door to door while urging them to vote the BJP into power. At 35:10 and 35:43 seconds into the video, the crowd can be seen raising their hands and cheering for him. While concluding the meeting at 36:26 seconds, the PM is heard saying, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

Further, with a keyword search “Dhoraji” on Twitter, we came across a tweet by ANI. The ANI interviewed a few people from the crowd. A local at a rally stated that it is Modi’s Gujarat and that they do not want anything other than the BJP in the state, while another local stated that they have traveled from Rajasthan with friends to hear PM Modi. In the image shared by AMI, a large crowd can be seen sitting in the background.

It is evident from our research that the claim made by AAP and GSTV News is misleading. This is not the first time that leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party have made such fake claims. A few days ago, many AAP representatives claimed that empty chairs were witnessed at PM Modi’s and Piyush Goyal’s public meetings in Modhera and Morbi. Our team investigated these claims and discovered that these leaders posted an edited video clip to show that the BJP is losing popularity in Gujarat.
