On November 16, 2022, amidst the upcoming Gujarat assembly election, many Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and fake news peddler Naresh Balyan, claimed in a tweet that the AAP candidate from Surat, Kanchan Jariwala, and his family, had been kidnapped by BJP goons. He is being pressured by the BJP to withdraw his name from the nomination list.
In our research, using the keyword search “AAP candidate Kanchan Jariwala kidnapped by BJP goons,” we found a video from ANI. In the video the AAP candidate who was allegedly kidnapped by BJP is seen at the election office withdrawing his name from the Surat East election.
In another video, Kanchan is standing right in front of the returning officer, and he is heard telling him that he is taking back his nomination without any pressure.
Furthermore, we discovered that after withdrawing his name from the nomination list, Kanchan Jariwala lashed out at his own party. He refuted AAP leaders’ claims that he was kidnapped by the BJP and forced to withdraw his name, and cited the reason for resigning by stating that his own party workers in East Surat demanded money from him. And he lacks the financial means to spend Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Party was placing a lot of pressure on him, and he was being harassed, thus, he decided to withdraw his name.
Jariwala also stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party did not kidnap him, and he went away with his son’s friends.
Kanchan Jariwala withdrew his name from the nomination list willingly not under any pressure. The entire drama, including allegations by top AAP leaders that he was kidnapped and pressurized by BJP, was a social media ploy to portray the BJP in a negative light while obscuring their own party’s fault. Even after Kanchan refuted the allegations, these leaders did not remove their tweets.
