Fact Check

We began our fact-checking by conducting a reverse image search of the viral video. Through our search, we found that the video is from a Manyavar advertisement shared on YouTube on March 10, 2017. In this advertisement, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli talks about various Indian festivals, including Holi, Diwali, Guruparab, and Eid. For instance, Kohli says, ‘During Holi, the flying gulal colors every heart, be it Mahesh or Michael. On Eid, we have eaten sevai made by Khan Chachi more often than Firoz. During Diwali, lights brighten everything. The sound of Christmas bells can be heard by everyone, not just Christians. On Guruprab, langar food fills everyone’s stomach. In India, every festival belongs to everyone.’

To further investigate the claim, we examined the audio used in the viral video. Upon investigation, we found that the original Manyavar advertisement had been altered, with its original audio removed and replaced. The background music in the viral clip is actually a song called “Noor-e-Ramzan”.

Hence, the claim that Virat Kohli made a video wishing the month of Ramzan is false. The original Manyavar advertisement, which is eight years old, has been edited and its background music manipulated to spread propaganda narrative.
