In our research, we conducted a keyword search related to this quote and found “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: Writings and Speeches, Vol. 1,” published by the Government of Maharashtra. This volume is a part of a comprehensive collection of Ambedkar’s works, including his speeches, writings, and letters.

On page 6 of this book, there is a reference to one of Ambedkar’s earliest scholarly works on caste, “Castes in India: Their Mechanism, Genesis, and Development.” On the same page, we found the viral quote “As long as caste in India does exist, Hindus will hardly intermarry or have any social intercourse with outsiders; and if Hindus migrate to other regions on earth, Indian caste would become a world problem.” Ambedkar cited this quote from Ketkar referencing Ketkar, Caste, p. 4. as the source.

Dr. BR Ambedkar did not say this himself. He referenced it from the book of Marathi historian Ketkar, whose name was mentioned as the source in the footnote.

We then found the book The History of Caste in India written by Shridhar Venkatesh Ketkar in 1909. This scholarly work examines the origins, development, and implications of the caste system in India, providing insights into its social and legal foundations.

On page 4 of his book, Ketkar critiqued the caste system, describing it as a rigid institution that isolates people within India. He also states that India’s caste system could become a global issue if carried abroad. While making this point, he writes: “As long as caste in India does exist, Hindus will hardly intermarry or have any social intercourse with outsiders; and if Hindus migrate to other regions on earth, Indian caste would become a world problem.”

Marathi historian Ketkar, in his book 'The History of Caste in India,' discussed how the caste system could become a global issue if Hindus migrated to other countries.

Here, he raises concern that if Hindus migrate to other parts of the world while maintaining their caste distinctions, the caste system would no longer remain just an Indian issue—it would become a global problem.

In conclusion, the quote “If Hindus migrate to other regions on earth, Indian caste would become a world problem” has been wrongly attributed to Ambedkar. He did not make this statement himself but referenced it from Ketkar’s book in his work ‘Castes in India.’ Ketkar, in his book The History of Caste in India, criticized the caste system as a rigid institution and pointed out that if Hindus migrate while maintaining caste distinctions, the Indian caste system could become a global issue.
