Lets first understand the difference between sell and lease

SellLease

To verify the claim made by an AAP spokesperson Sanjay Singh, we conducted research. We discovered a press conference video of Anurag Thakur released by CNN News 18 using a keyword “Railway news conference of Anurag Thakur.”

According to a Union Minister, policy for long-term leasing of railway property for the PM Gati Shakti initiative, which the government claims would assist set up 300 cargo terminals and create 1.25 lakh employment, was approved. The policy will increase revenue for the Railways and create an estimated 1.25 lakh new jobs; 300 new cargo terminals will be built in five years.

As opposed to the current five-year lease, the new policy will enable the provision of land lease for up to 35 years.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur made no reference at the press conference that the nation’s assets, valued at 6.5 lakh crore, will be sold. The railway property, according to his statement, will be leased out. When someone enters into a contract, it is said to be “lease out,” meaning they are paying money in return for the right to use an asset for a particular period of time.

Hence, the claim by the AAP spokesperson that the government is selling railway assets worth 6.5 lakh crore is false.
