On June 4, 2023, a video clip went viral, featuring prominent BJP leader Vijay Goel engaged in a discussion on the pressing issue of stray dog bites. However, what began as a dialogue on a pertinent concern soon took an unexpected turn. As the video captured the intense conversation, frustration suddenly took hold of Vijay Goel, and his composure wavered. In a moment of frustration, he directed his annoyance toward an individual who was recording the interaction. With determination etched on his face, he strode purposefully towards the person behind the camera, demanding that they cease their recording.

It was this incident that served as fodder for political ammunition, with the AAP party seizing the opportunity to strike back at their rivals. Sharing the video on their official Twitter page, they wasted no time in casting a damning shadow over Vijay Goel and the BJP. The AAP party accused Vijay Goel of exhibiting an “anti-women” demeanor, insinuating that his intent was to harm the woman filming, all while posing a question.

In their tweet, the AAP party portrayed the BJP as a collective of individuals they labeled as “ruffians, goons, mawalis, and rapists.” The message was clear: Vijay Goel’s behavior was merely a reflection of the party’s true nature.

Furthermore, the official Twitter handle of MP Congress wasted no time in seizing the opportunity and condemning Vijay Goel’s actions. Labeling him a “shameless leader” of the BJP, the Congress party highlighted that the incident involved the BJP leader physically striking the journalist while supposedly attempting to introduce his values.

Moreover, Y Sathish Reddy, also known as YSR, a leader of the BRS party and a figure known for peddling fake news, added fuel to the fire by sharing the video and making bold claims about BJP leader Vijay Goel. According to YSR’s tweet, Vijay Goel, a four-time MP and former Union Minister, allegedly slapped a woman who was recording the incident. YSR further expressed his dismay at the lack of action being taken against Goel, directing his message toward Prime Minister Modi.

Apart from this, the official Twitter handles of media outlet Dilli Tak, News agency The News Indian, and All India Trinamool Congress also shared the viral video and made similar claims.

So, is it true that BJP leader Vijay Goel slapped a woman for recording him? Let’s Fact Check.

Fact Check

As the controversy surrounding BJP leader Vijay Goel continued to unfold, our investigation led us to his official Twitter handle, where we discovered a video posted by Goel himself on June 5, 2023. This video shed new light on the allegations that had sparked the intense debate. In a heartfelt response, Goel addressed the accusations leveled against him, providing crucial context and a different perspective on the incident.

In the video, Vijay Goel directly named AAP leaders and certain media outlets, including The New Indian, alleging that they had shared a video claiming he had slapped a woman. Goel clarified that the meeting in question was convened to devise a strategy to tackle the growing issue of stray dog attacks in Model Town, where hospitals were reportedly seeing approximately 2,000 cases of dog bites every day.

According to Goel, AAP leaders and specific media outlets strategically shared a video clip that was shot from the back, deliberately obscuring the details and leaving the impression that he had indeed slapped someone. However, he revealed that the incident itself involved individuals who had arrived with the intent to disrupt proceedings. Goel stated that he ensured they were respectfully seated, and then engaged them in a conversation regarding the challenges posed by stray dogs.

Moreover, Contrary to the allegations, Vijay Goel vehemently denied slapping anyone or snatching a phone. To support his claims, he shared an alternative clip of the incident, shot from a different angle, which unequivocally demonstrated his innocence. The footage showed Goel seated on a chair, engaging in a conversation about Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) feeding stray dogs. It was only when he rose from his seat to request one of the women to stop recording the video that he exhibited any physical movement. Importantly, the video confirmed that there was no act of violence or phone snatching involved.

Here is the video clip shared by Vijay Goel which proves that he did not slap the woman, nor did he attempt to snatch her phone.

Hence, all these evidences proves that the claims made by AAP, Congress, and various media outlets regarding Vijay Goel slapping a woman are false and misleading. The video shared by Goel himself, along with his detailed explanation, dispels the cloud of doubt surrounding the incident.
