Recently, an image of Putin has gone viral on Twitter. Several Pakistani Twitter accounts shared an image of Putin reading a biography of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The book that Putin is reading in the viral image is ‘Pakistan: A Personal History.’ And the other book kept on the table is ‘Let there be Justice.’
The Pakistani Twitter user Mahnoor shared the viral image with a caption that read, ” Imran Khan is read by the world and we are lucky to have a leader like him.”
Another Pakistani Twitter handle wrote, “Putin studying Imran Khan.”
Fact Check
We started our research with a reverse image search using the Dupli Checker tool. The reverse image search took us to the Alamy website, where we found a similar image. We discovered that the photoshopped image was circulated by Pakistani Twitter accounts. According to Alamy, the photograph was taken in the Kremlin on June 14, 2016, when Putin met with President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Fortov and Director of the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations Mikhail Kotyukov.
We then tried to find out the book Putin was reading. Using the translate to text option in Dupli checker tool, we found that the title of the book “Доклад” translates to “Report” in English. However, we couldn’t discover the name of the original book.
Since Putin met with the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Director of the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations at the event, the book Putin was reading was most likely linked to science and was not the book on Imran Khan.
Further, we zoomed the image and found that the other book which was kept on the table was not ‘Let there be Justice’ but ‘Extreme States of Matter: High Energy Density Physics.’
Hence, the viral image which is being shared by the Pakistani Twitter handle is photoshopped.
