3.5-Year-Old Video of Man Who Tore And Burned Ambedkar’s Picture Shared as Recent

A 22-second video clip of a man tearing and burning Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s picture is being circulated with the claim that a Manuvadi is disrespecting Ambedkar by burning his picture.

Sharing the video, Lautan Ram Nishad wrote, “Look at the antics of the Manuwadis. They are tearing and burning the photo of the architect of the Constitution, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.”

Parody handle Gabbar Singh asserted, “You can do anything for someone who has become immortal… scratch the pillar all your life, Look at the antics of the Manuvadis, they are tearing and burning the photo of the architect of the Constitution, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.”

The video was also shared by several other accounts, including Sandeep Yadav, The Gramin Network, Prachi Yadav and The Atheist Sena.

Fact Check

In our fact check research, we ran a reverse search of the keyframe extracted from the viral clip and found a Facebook post by Arun Rajbhar from April 2021. The video is nearly 3.5 years old. According to the caption of the post, the man in the video National party president Jai Prakash Mishra, who burnt Ambedkar’s picture.

Further, we conducted a keyword search and found a report by Jansatta dated April 17, 2021. According to the report, Jai Prakash Mishra,  a resident of Mahadeva, on the birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar tore and burned his picture as a protest against the reservation system. Mishra also recorded a video of the act, posted it on a social media platform, and said, “I am tearing this picture of Ambedkar to take revenge for the self-immolation of our children due to caste-based reservation and to protest symbolically.” Saying this, he tore and burned the picture. He further stated, “This is a true tribute to the children who committed self-immolation.” With this post, Jai Prakash Mishra reiterated the demand to make the country reservation free.

After the video went viral, there was a significant uproar, with people demanding Mishra’s arrest. Upon receiving the complaint, the local police administration searched for him, but he was initially not found. Mishra was eventually arrested later.

In conclusion, this video is approximately three and a half years old. In April 2021, Jaiprakash Mishra, who claimed to be the national president of the Nationalist Party AAP India, burned Dr. Ambedkar’s photo in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested and sent to jail for this incident.
