Claim about a Kashmiri student found dead in a hostel is misleading
On April 22, 2025, a deadly terror attack took place in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, in which 26 tourists were shot dead. Five terrorists linked to The Resistance Front (TRF)—a group affiliated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba—carried out this brutal act. The terrorists specifically targeted Hindu tourists, asking them their religion before shooting them on the spot. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers asked victims to recite the Kalma and checked for circumcision to determine their religion before killing them. In the aftermath of this attack, claims are being made on social media that Kashmiri students studying in several cities across India are being attacked. In one such case in Kolkata, a Kashmiri student named Tanveer Hussain was found dead in his hostel room.
Sharing the claim, the handle Faraz Yaseen wrote, “In the aftermath of false flag operations by India , Kashmiri students have been targeted in several cities of India. A Kashmiri student Tanveer Hussain was found dead in Hostel in Kolkata ( West Bengal India).” (Archived link)
Another handle stated, “A kashmiri student found dead in Kolkata college hostel:Tanveer Hussain.” (Archived link)
The same claim was also shared by other handles like Mohammad Anas (Archived link) and Arbaaz Farooq Lone (Archived link).
